We are all aware that the true meaning of Christmas often gets lost in all of the business of the holiday season. Even the most well-meaning Christian in remembering the real “reason for the season” can glaze over the fact that the tiny baby born in the manger was also the God of the Universe who death on the Cross would take away the sins of the world. In her new advent devotional “Unwrapping the Names of Jesus,” Asheritah Ciuciu helps us remember all that the Christ child embodied.
Ciuciu begins by reminding us why a celebration of Advent can be helpful. While many the season of Advent may be foreign to many evangelicals today, Ciuciu points out that it can help us “meditate on scripture and more fully enter the season of Christmas.” To do this she follows the traditional themes of Advent: hope, preparation, joy, and love. Each week she “unwraps” the names of Jesus and how each name shows how Jesus was all that was expected of the coming Messiah and more. Ciuciu tells you how to set up each week with your family, and each week concludes with activities that tie into the week’s theme. Each daily devotion consists of a short but meaningful reading and includes a challenge, a prayer, and verses for further study.
Asheritah Ciuciu’s book is a novel approach on the daily Advent devotional that really does include all you need to have a meaningful personal or family devotion through the Advent season.
